Here you will find all resources I've used in creating icons. And I want to emphasize how grateful I am for the many, many LJers who share their creativity--these resources are essential to my icon-age. Any resources I've created myself can be found in the memories of this journal. Also, I have an icon section in my Web site, Power Plays, with pages for Battlestar Galactica, BTVS/ATS, Firefly/Serenity, House, Xena Warrior Princess/Hercules the Legendary Journeys and the brilliantly-named Miscellaneous (these include pictures of actors, animals, non-fan-based icons and any icons that don't belong on the other pages), and I credit the resources for each individual icon there, as well as providing an alphabetical list of the creators of the resources used for the icons on that particular page. However, this post will contain, in one place, all the resources I've used.

If I've somehow omitted your work, please let me know so I can credit you properly. And if anyone knows the new handle and/or URL of a resource maker who has "no known location" as far as I know, please give me her/his new information in a comment to this post so I can credit her/him properly and enable others to find her/his work.

Resources await behind the curtain )

In honor of National Coming Out Day, I have two icons to unveil. Granted, they're not my best, but I've had a bad week. No a bad month. Oh, never mind. MS sucks, but you knew that.

Oh, I thought I'd let y'all know that I'm a lesbian. Yep. Now don't be overcome with shock or anything, now. But if you happen to know any available (doesn't have to be monogamous; if possible, I wouldn't be) lesbians in a grown-up sort of age range who are into fandom, preferably the Whedonverse, and happen to be kinky and toppish, and have a burning desire to visit Chino, CA and play with naughty toys, just send her on over. :-)

As always, please credit to [info]fading_coal or [info]astarte59. Comments are groovy. :-) And Happy Coming Out Day!

And when I last looked, all the places where icons were supposed to be had small blue question marks. Like I said, for the past few months, I'd try to upload something new to weblogimages, and the direct link never worked, but everything that had already been there was there and working. I was thinking of switching to Photobucket anyway, on the assumption that I'll have some new icons to post one day. And then it looked like I'd have to rebuild this entire journal, and now I find my icons, resource preview images, etc. all back.

Color me confused . . .

Yes, I know all my images have vanished, except User Pics. Blame it all on weblogimages; they worked great for a couple of years and then direct links for new uploads stopped working and now nothing is working. So I'll be spending a lot of time w/ Photobucket. weblogimages never answered any of my reports to them of problems. I think it's basically been dying for a while, but I do wish I could do something painful to whoever's responsible.

Was told to pimp this, so here goes:

In [info]grrliz_icons, there is a now-ancient icon-makers' meme, but perhaps it can be revived,
'cuz gosh knows I have a lot to learn!

So the idea:
The "Ask Your Favourite Icon Makers A Question" Meme

How it works:
Icon makers should comment to this post with their username / icon journal (i.e. wherever they post icons).
Icon users will then reply to their comments with questions pertaining to their icon making / graphic design habits, inspirations, or techniques.
Icon makers will answer said questions.

24 icon-sized light textures based on images from stock.xchng, Getty Images, fontplay.com, Image*After, and my own original doodlings with Photoshop or combined with the stock images.

Take, use, enjoy, put them to work for you, but please credit [info]astarte59 or [info]fading_coal, and comments (please leave on this page) feed my muse. :-) I'd be delighted to see any of your creations that put any of my resources to work.

24 Photoshop gradients made with PS CS. The first gradient in the set was made from colors of the costumes of the crew of Firefly. Some of the gradients were inspired by [info]call_me_daisy's really marvelous tutorial (which, unfortunately, she had to take down through no fault of her own--I'm sorry it's no longer available) that suggests using partially black gradients to emphasize the colors and create depth. I found that it works marvelously and made the partially black gradients in this set as needed when I couldn't find just the right colors in my gradient collection. The tutorial suggests using an overlay, but I found that soft light works best for me.

The zip file contains both a grd. file and an image pack, so these can be used with all programs.

Take, use, enjoy, but please credit [info]astarte59 or [info]fading_coal, and comments feed my muse. :-) I have a button on my User Info if you wish to use it for linkage, but it's certainly not necessary.

Please read the first two entries in this journal, [info]fading_coal for complete information and rules.

A couple of the icons contain partial nudity of the Cuddy variety, but nothing more than was shown on the series itself.

A disease that attacks his brain, heart, and testicles. I think Byron wrote about that. )

26 Battlestar Galactica icons. BE WARNED: Several of them, well, a good many of them, contain implied and direct spoilers for Season 2 (aka Season 2.0 and 2.5), so if you live in the U.K. or the former British Empire or anywhere else with a schedule behind the U.S., do please come back when the season is over. You'll be glad you did. :-)

36 icon-sized light textures, many of which can also be used as bases. They were created using images from stock.xchng and Getty Images, as well as my own doodlings, using selective cropping and PS CS filters. The set includes images of fire, lightning, sparky-type things, brightly-colored stuff like close ups of marbles or other shiny stuff, and a few of my attempts at freehand textures. One texture comes from a photo of a sliced-open red cabbage! Photoshop is too much fun. :-)
